Update on Callaghan Fest:

This summer, we have been having some van troubles and unfortunately, it has all come unravelled the week before the fest!  We have a major problem with our van and that has forced us to have to take it home immediately.  So, since we cannot be there, we want to help out however we can by answering any questions here.

When you get to the Cal Cheak Rec area, the fest is in the 1st area that you come to.  Please pay the campground host for your campsite--that fee is unrelated to the festival.

Instead of an entry fee to the fest, we will have someone come around and collect donations that will go to the BC Creeks Protection Society and AW, so they can keep up their work on saving Callaghan Creek!

For folks who want to see or enter the race, there will race organizers there between 10 and noon to steer you in the right direction.

Remember that this is an event to make some noise about how much we love Callaghan Creek.  The most important thing you can do is go there, paddle, hang out and have good vibes.  We hope everyone has a great time and clean lines.  We are super bummed to not get to hang out with our friends and paddle our favorite creek this year, but we hope to see you all next year!  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problems or questions.

Are there any class 2-3 paddlers wanting to get in on the action? There are several other runs in the area that are not grade 5. I haven't paddled them myself but if any Vancouver or Squamish paddlers are willing to organize some runs on the easier stuff I would be more than happy to come and help with support on the Sunday.

We should do what ever we can to increase turn out for the event and hopefully keep it rolling for next year.

Mid Check/Cal Check were very high last weekend, not the place for class 2 paddlers, Green would be Ok.

We have our own race in Squamish on Sunday.

Was an awesome event even as a spectator. Sounds like the plan is on for next year again. Hopefully the VKC can have a better presence next year, maybe we can request the clean up date on the Chilliwack to move??

Ill have some video and pics up soon.

I was helping out at the Chilliwack clean-up, but am looking forward to hearing all about the Callaghan Festival. Glad to hear it was an awesome time. Well done!!!

Agreed that it's too bad both river conservation events were on the same day. Good idea to avoid this happening next year. I know that several VKC members were at the Callaghan in both organization and participation roles. Can't wait to hear how they did in the race!

As Annie said, the Callaghan races went really well - if you'd like to read the recap and see some photos of the big day just click the link below - thanks to everyone for coming out and we look forward to next year!
