Looking for your spare gear, for the pool
« on: October 03, 2009, 11:54:31 AM »
The VKC is planning to train beginners in the sport we all love, and I've volunteered my time to help. We're starting early this year, and my first task is to find gear, specifically:
  • boats
    paddles
    spray-decks

If you have any spare gear, gear that you don't use any more, or gear that you don't think you'll use over the winter, please let me know. The club is making arrangements so that all gear, whether donated or loaned to the club, will be stored and cared for all winter.

We need to have this in order by the middle of October, so please post/call ASAP if you are interested.

Also, if you see any ads out there on craigslist or othewise, please continue to post them, and/or ask if the seller would be willing to donate.

Thanks,
-IainR

I should point out that all gear loaned or donated to the club will be kept in a locked room outfitted with kayak racks. This made a difference to someone yesterday.

Many thanks to those who've loaned or donated so far!  :)

We have a few boats together. Couldn't hurt to have a couple more. But we're still really short on spray-decks and paddles.

How long do you need the gear for? I can come up with a boat or two during the winter season.  Do you just need them for pool and lake stuff or for river use as well?  I may have some ocean kayak skirts that would work rolling practice and stuff just not tight enough for white water use.

let me know,

Ryan

Awesome Ryan,
Anything you can lend will be appreciated. We're particularly short on spray-skirts, so those would be great for the pool.
At this point we're looking at in-pool gear, for courses over the winter. In the spring we may need boats for the river.

As many of you know, our beginner courses and pool sessions have been going really well. Thanks again to those of you who provided boats, paddles, and spray decks! We are now putting together our river training program and need to collect some gear to keep the students safe and warm. Anything in good or repairable shape that you can loan, donate, or sell would be very much appreciated! Please contact us right away if you have any of the following items. Thanks!

  • Helmets
  • PFDs
  • Drytops/Paddling jackets
  • Wetsuits
  • Booties
  • Gloves/Pogies
  • Neoprene caps

I have a grab bag that has been used previously with a couple of helmets/PFD's and probably the largest collection of destroyed gloves/dancing slippers!

Thanks Keith. Are you thinking of coming to a pool session in the next 2 weeks? Otherwise when would be a good time to pick these things up?

Probably not to a pool session. I could always leave it under the deck.

I have 3 neoprene skull caps, 1 pair gloves and an MEC neoprene vest (m) which I am happy to donate.
I can bring them to one of the pool sessions of you like.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I haven't been paddling in a year.  That dental work really set me back!  Anyways, because of school now (BCIT professional program) I have no time to go paddling for at least 6 months and maybe longer.  You can have my boat as a loaner for 6 months.  In 6 months, will know if VKC can have it for good.  Might have some wearables, too, and will go through my gear.

Iain, call me to arrange a pickup.  778-828-4933

Cheers,
